Waxed amaryllis bulbs do not require any watering! They get all of the moisture they need from their bulb being inside a coating of wax.
Waxed amaryllis bulbs are easy to care for! Place them flat in a well-lit room and avoid direct sunlight. To ensure your amaryllis grows straight, rotate it every few days.
When the flowers are wilting and becoming dry you should cut the stem at the base. There is a chance that more flower stems will grow. Wait for 3-4 weeks if stems are growing. If no extra stems appear, the amaryllis has finished flowering, the wax can be peeled off, and you can plant the bulb into the ground.
To keep your waxed amaryllis longer, you will wait until the current blooms die. Once they die, you will want to deadhead them so that the stem can save its energy. If the stem is green, you only need to trim the flowers off, but if the stem turns yellow, you will want to about an inch above the top of the bulb. The leaves are also important for conserving the energy so you will want to leave those in tact. You can then remove the wax from the bulb and plant it in a pot with potting soil or in the ground (after there is no more sign of frost). Make sure the top of the bulb where the leaves are, is sticking out above the soil. It will need at least 6 hours of sunlight a day and a good drink of water often. The top inch of soil should dry out in between waterings to make sure it doesn't receive too much water. You can then use a liquid high-phosphorus fertilizer every couple of weeks in late Winter or early Spring.
Your Waxed Amaryllis Bulb is completely self-sustaining. There is no need to fertilize since all of the nutrients is provided from inside the waxed bulb.
Root rot and fungus can affect bulbs if they are kept too wet once planted in the ground or pot.
