This plant will thrive in a full sun or shade spot.
Regular
Well draining soil
Water your spike plant just enough so the soil stays slightly damp. They prefer to be in dryer soil than totally saturated.
These spikes can survive in a full sun or shady spot. They are not picky when it comes to the light they receive.
The best time to prune these is in the Spring or early Summer. Flowering stalks can be trimmed after blooming period and foliage can be lightly trimmed to keep desired shape.
To propagate these spikes, place the stem in a jar or vase of water and make sure that the bottom leaf nodes are submerged. Keep the jar in an area with bright, indirect light and wait for roots to develop. This can take anywhere from 2-8 weeks. Once roots have developed, you can then transplant your new plant into soil.
Although fertilizing is not necessary these spikes can be fertilized with a balanced organic plant food 3 or 4 times a year. If your spike is indoors fertilization is only necessary once a year.
These spikes are susceptible to the diseases Fusarium Leaf Spot and Soft Rot.
