When the top of the soil of your New Guinea Impatiens plant feels dry, go ahead and water. You do not want to let the soil dry out for an extended amount of time or the blooms are likely to die.
New Guinea Impatiens do best in a spot that gets the morning sun and shade for the rest of the day. They prefer shade over sun for their delicate flowers.
Prune as needed by cutting them back 6 inches or less. Deadheading will encourage new growth.
Cut back a stem 6 inches below the bloom, remove any leaves, and then place it in water. Once it begins to grow roots, plant it in soil.
Use a slow-release fertilizer when planting. New Guinea Impatiens don't require more fertilization than that.
Spider mites, aphids, and downy mildew can affect new guinea impatiens.
